New Hope Community Church, 592 Beaver Road, is extending help to people who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Live music, ethnic foods, games and activities will be aplenty when the 19th annual Good Samaritan Parish Festival runs Thursday through Sunday. Known for its outstanding East European food, St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Ambridge will sell stuffed cabbage, halushky and more on Friday, Sept. 5. “We get requests all year long for stuffed cabbage and especially dumpling halushky ,so we decided we would try to meet the community’s need with this special sale," said John Righetti, chairman. The special section in the newspaper spotlights the accomplishments of noteworthy residents throughout the region.
Old Economy Village in Ambridge will provide a free historic lecture at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13 in the Visitor Center. Historian Joe White will discuss the circumstances surrounding Dr. Karl Arndt borrowing a large number of records from the Harmonist Society and Old Economy and their not being returned until Dr. Arndt’s death in 1951.
