Starting today, the lower alley between Merchant Street and Maplewood Avenue, between 4th Street and 5th Street, will be closed for approximately two weeks to accommodate the demolition of 451 Merchant Street.
This project is funded by an $83,000 Community Development Block Grant awarded to the Borough to remove this blighted and dangerous building. Demolition is being completed by Schaaf Excavating Contractors, Inc. The adjacent businesses, including Vocelli’s and Mark 14 are open during the demolition. The front sidewalk in front of this building on Merchant Street will be fenced off for added safety; pedestrians are encouraged to use the sidewalk on the other side of Merchant Street during the closure in front of 451 Merchant Street
