By Larissa Dudkiewicz An Ambridge man pleaded guilty this week in federal court on a charge of violating federal burglary laws, according to the U.S. attorney's office in Pittsburgh. Carlos Martinez, 27, of Maplewood Avenue, pleaded guilty to one count of burglarizing a pharmacy before U.S. District Judge Arthur J. Schwab. According to a news release, Martinez conspired with others to burglarize the Med-Fast pharmacy in Baden on Sept. 26 to 27, 2012, and stole controlled substances, including oxycodone and oxymorphone from that pharmacy. Co-defendants David Best and Katie Adams were separately charged for conspiring with Martinez to burglarize the pharmacy. On the evening of Sept. 26, 2012, officials said Adams allegedly drove Best and Martinez to the pharmacy. Best first broke into the Chinese restaurant next door to the pharmacy, and from there, bore through the wall of the restaurant and into the pharmacy, the news release said. Once inside the pharmacy, Best allegedly stole the controlled substances while Martinez served as a “lookout” outside. Best then left the pharmacy, and Adams, the “getaway” driver, drove Martinez and Best away from the pharmacy. Authorities said the three later split the stolen narcotics among themselves. Adams and Best have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. The DEA conducted the investigation. Martinez is scheduled for sentencing on April 30. He could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison and fined up to $250,000. Like Ambridge Connection on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter. |
