Plans are in motion for a new Speedway convenience store and gas station in Harmony Township. Harmony commissioners approved a subdivision request Wednesday in relation to the store’s future location on southbound Route 65 at Logan Lane.  A large crowd gathered to watch as Store Manager Cory Campbell and Economy Mayor Dave Polling cut the ceremonial ribbon, marking the official open to the new Walmart Supercenter in Economy.
The board also approved retirements, reappointments and a resignation.  Ambridge Area School Board approved a contract with a North Hills-based company to complete a district-wide facilities study.
Architectural Renovations of Ross Township was approved Wednesday to do the assessment at a cost not to exceed $15,000.  Five same-sex couples filed for marriage licenses in Beaver County Wednesday, just a day after a federal judge struck down Pennsylvania's ban on gay marriage.
The decision by District Court Judge John Jones essentially opens the door for same-sex couples to legally wed in the commonwealth. Credit: Felicia Mycyk A lock down at Ambridge Area High School was lifted after authorities spent Wednesday morning and early afternoon investigating a threat scrawled on a bathroom wall.
A staff member discovered the message "I have a gun" handwritten lightly in pencil on a ceramic wall in the boys bathroom. Police and the school resource officer were immediately notified at 10:45 a.m. Events are planned in Ambridge, Baden and Economy.  Parades, ceremonies and observances are planned in local communities for Memorial Day weekend, when we pause and remember fallen veterans.

The public is invited to attend the free, one-stop shop from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 25 at Ambridge Area High School to gather information about youth sports, camps and upcoming activities. The event will feature special guest and two-time Olympian Brianne McLaughlin, goalie of the USA Women's Hockey Team.  The governor’s race in Pennsylvania is now set for the November general election.
Tom Wolf was victorious in the Democratic primary for governor and will face Gov. Tom Corbett, who ran unopposed in the Republican primary. In the 12th Congressional District, Erin McClelland won the nomination for the Democratic party and will face U.S. Rep. Keith Rothfus in the fall. Her dedication to honoring local veterans led her to join the women's auxiliary at the Baden American Legion Post 641, where she is now leading the charge on the annual poppy fundraiser. |
