 The wife of former Ambridge mayor Walter Panek recently passed away.
Irene C. Panek of Baden, formerly of Ambridge, died Thursday, August 13, 2015, in Villa St. Joseph. She was 101 years old. Putting to rest the rumors that the JROTC program was in limbo, the Ambridge Area School Board voted to rehire both JROTC instructors during its meeting Wednesday night.
When the new school year begins next week, Ambridge Area’s JROTC program will go forward as usual, according to the superintendent.
Ambridge Area School Board tabled an agreement last week with Glade Run Lutheran Services for day student education in light of several recent sex abuse allegations at the Zelienople campus involving minors.

Bob Dunn was appalled to see someone mow their lawn and then pile grass clippings into the street.
“When they cut the grass, they do it after the sweeper goes by and then we always have trouble with our sewers clogging up,” said Dunn, an Ambridge resident who is also running for a seat on council. By Nancy Knisley
