Changes abound for the Ambridge Area Chamber of Commerce. Paul Mitchell, owner of Post Office Catering Group and Big Creek BBQ, has been named president of the Ambridge Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors. During the reorganization, they brought in Shawn Anderson as the interim consultant director. We spent the afternoon with our Granddaughter at the Baden Applefest. What a nice thing they had set up for the community.
They had parking set up in the old Zayre parking lot with a shuttle bus making a continuous loop up Johnson Avenue, down State Street to Logan Lane and back. Traffic on State Street was blocked off at Logans Lane in order for the Northbound lane to be set up for the classic cars. The entire Municipal Building Area was set up with booths. They had the food booths set up in front of the firehouse with all different kinds of food.....Papa Duke's gyros, Mama D's Casa di Pasta selling mearball sandwiches and and french fries, Voelli's Pizza, and the VFD was selling hot dogs, bratwurst, and beer. Accordions and accordion music were popular in the 1940s and '50s, especially in Ambridge, where the accordion was a featured instrument in the music of eastern and southern Europe our parents and grandparents enjoyed hearing and dancing to.
