Ambridge Memories: American Bridge Day 50th Anniversary

November 23, 1964, was "American Bridge Day" in Ambridge. The iconic Verrazano-Narrows Bridge linking Staten Island with Brooklyn was opened on November 21, and Ambridge's Mayor Walter Panek issued a proclamation recognizing the contribution of American Bridge Company's Ambridge mill and its employees in the bridge's construction.

25 Guns Stolen from Ambridge Home

An Ambridge man is facing numerous charges after police said he stole 25 guns from his parents’ borough home.

Timothy George Sepella, 30, of Olive Lane, is scheduled today for a preliminary hearing on two charges each of theft and receiving stolen property.

Donations Being Accepted for Project Holiday Dreams

The annual Project Holiday Dreams program is working to make this Christmas memorable for 54 local families, including 72 children.

Donations are currently being taken to support the effort, which gives toys and food to each family.

Landowners Request Harmony Zoning Change for Oil and Gas Drilling

A group of Harmony Township landowners are asking the township commissioners to change some wording in the zoning ordinance to make it easier for oil and gas companies to operate here.

John Keppel, who spoke Wednesday on behalf of large landowners, said the gas companies don’t like part of the current language in the township's ordinance, particularly that drilling is considered a "conditional" use.

Keppel said the companies would prefer the ordinance list drilling as a “permitted” use, which he said the Economy and New Sewickley ordinances have. Harmony's oil and gas ordinance was created in 2011.

“They won’t even look at the township unless the ordinance is revised,” Keppel said.
