State Street Elementary brought home the trophy in the 8th annual Battle of the Books held at the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit. Placing first for the school was 6th grade Team 3: Jonathan Cermak, Kylie Dreyer, Madison Holcomb, and Camden Mawhinney. Also representing our district were: Dominic Brooks, Kaitlyn Gill, Ava Mrkonja, Roarke Richard, Zyra Chickos, Andrew Crofoot, Olivia Huellen, Devon Sharpless, and Ava Timmons. All of the students worked as a team preparing each other for this competition. State Street has brought home the trophy twice in the past four years of participation! We are so proud of all of our teams! Thank you to the Beaver County Library System for putting on this fantastic event and especially our home library, Baden Memorial Library. :)
John Chalupiak, a fifth grader at State Street Elementary School, and Elias Shingleton, a senior at Ambridge High School, visited the Beaver County Courthouse today as part of Law Day. John won the honor of attending the event after placing second in the bookmark contest for grades 4 and 5. The theme of the contest was "The Three Branches of Government." He received a $30 gift card, a medal and certificate. Elias received a $500 scholarship award for his accomplishments in the Mock Trial. Both were recognized at the courthouse and treated to a luncheon sponsored by the Beaver County Bar Association.
Congratulations John and Elia
