According to borough officials, projects planned with the 2016 bond include replacement of the borough building roof, purchase of a new fire engine, a backhoe for the Public Works Department, road improvements and streetscape enhancements on Merchant Street between 8th and 4th Streets.
The borough unveiled a preliminary rending of the streetscape concept on Merchant Street. The view is from PNC Bank at 5th Street looking north. Borough Manager Joe Kauer said it is proposed to improve Merchant Street from 4th Street to 8th Street. "The proposed project isn't a full streetscape enhancement, however would be a significant public improvement that would greatly improve downtown, making Ambridge a more welcoming place to frequent and do business from," Kauer said. Improvements proposed include removing the telephone poles and above ground electric service in this area. They would be replaced with ornamental streetlights that would have electric hookups attached that could run holiday decorations. Plans also include a decorative concrete pavement band will be added at the curb-line, in addition to minor repairs to some areas of damaged sidewalk, new curb extensions at the intersections, new street trees and tree pits, improved pedestrian cross-walks, street furniture and amenities. |
