Old Economy Village will host a free lecture featuring professor and Harmonist scholar Alice Ott. The lecture on the "Religious Beliefs and Practices of George Rapp’s Harmony Society" begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, in the visitor center, 270 16th St., Ambridge. Ott researched the religious beliefs of George Rapp and the Harmony Society during her tenure as a Scholar in Residence at Old Economy Village in 2006. Ott is an affiliate professor of the history of Global Christianity at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. In about a week, close to 40 racers from four local counties will head to Ambridge to compete in the National Qualifying Soap Box Derby Race. Hosted by the Western Pennsylvania Soap Box Derby, the event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 7 on 14th Street in Ambridge. Champions are expected to be crowned at 3 p.m. By Larissa Dudkiewicz Ambridge Area has added more than 30 new course offerings to the high school curriculum, giving students an opportunity to graduate with college credits and a diploma in hand. The Ambridge Fire Department recently had an Insurance Service Office (ISO) inspection that lowered the borough’s rating from 6 to a new score of 3. Ambridge Fire Chief Dave Drewnowski said the ISO rating impacts residential, commercial and industrial insurance premiums, with “10” being the worst and “1” being the best. County, state and local officials today announced plans for an $81 million PennDOT project to complete a 3.5-mile stretch from Route 989 in New Sewickley to the Route 65 in Freedom. Residents around the area marked Memorial Day with ceremonies, parades and barbecues, honoring America's military and those who sacrificed their lives for our country.
By Larissa Dudkiewicz Ambridge Police charged an Aliquippa man with attempted homicide in connection with a shooting at a borough night club. Police also charged Scott A. Humphries, 29, of Franklin Avenue, with aggravated assault, being a former convict not permitted to own a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, making terroristic threats, simple assault, and four counts of recklessly endangering another person. Attendees to the Help Them Play Youth Fest said they were glad they took the time to come out Sunday afternoon. From games, face painting and crafts to information about summer camps and children's sports, the event provided a plethora of information on youth activities available around town. |
