Ambridge: Two People Assaulted in Public

12/29/2017

Comments

According to Ambridge Police Chief James Mann, there were two reported incidents of the victims being assaulted in public.

Mann shared that on Dec. 10 at 5:40 pm there was a report that took place outside the store, near the entrance of Dollar General where there were three adolescent males, engaged with a brief conversation with the victim. Then one of the unknown adolescents with a closed fist punched the victim in the face and then the three males ran south on Merchant St. Ambridge police obtained a copy of the video and then showed the victim. The victim was unable to identify the suspects.

Another incident was reported on Dec. 25 at 3:30 pm near Little Athens Restaurant, shared Mann. The victim got out of his car and was getting something out of the passager side of his vehicle. The unidentified suspect came up to the victim and sucker punched him. The suspect then ran west on 5th street and then began to run south on Lower Alley. The victim said no words were exchanged before the incident.

Mann said he would not classify this as a Knockout Game; he would just call them simple assaults. The Knockout Game that has happen in New York and other locations, teens approach a stranger from a dark alley or space in public and punch the stranger in an attempt to knock him or her out and they usually are videotaped to document for points.

Anyone with additional details should contact Ambridge Police at 724-266-3270.

"We want residents to be aware of their surroundings and go in groups " added Mann. "The next person someone tries to assault may be an undercover policeman, and they will be in for a big surprise."

Ambridge Alumni Brian Kowalski was hesitant to share on social media about his decision to give back to his hometown.

"This morning I paid off every kids past due lunch bill for all the elementary schools in the Ambridge School District" shared Kowalski on his facebook page.

Kowalski added to the facebook post "According to the Great Theologian Amiri King, if you do something nice, don’t be ashamed to share."

"I chose Ambridge since it’s my alumni (class of 1999) even though I don’t not live in the district anymore. I’ll never forget where I came from. I was one of those kids and I knew it could potentially help lots of families around the holidays."

"My hope is to Inspire others to do something similar for their school, church, local shelter, etc." added Kowalski.

The Ambridge School District released a Press Release on another donor #BeTHEGood #BridgerPride
At the Junior High, 90 students were helped, for a total of $500 in negative lunch balances, according to District Food Services Director Janet Gaffney. At the elementary schools, a total of 215 students were helped for a total of $796 in negative lunch balances. While the negative lunch balances have been paid off at the elementary and junior high schools, Gaffney noted that the Senior High School still carries a negative lunch balance of $1,320.38.
Gaffney said this is the first time in her 25 years as the food services director for the District that anyone has come forward to pay off lunch balances. “I am so moved and grateful to have been a part of this experience of having two of our parents come forward in this giving act of generosity; to see firsthand the spirit of giving is still alive and well in the AASD,” she said.
