To compliment the streetscape project, this Duquesne Light grant will remove the existing utility poles, existing cobra-head streetlights and the only above ground wiring in the project area that services the existing streetlights. Duquesne Light has already completed a review of the project area and presented a proposal of $13,451.97 to remove the utility poles and streetlights. Once this project is completed, all of the wiring for the new street lanterns will be underground, and the remaining above ground utilities in this area for the buildings will be serviced from the rear allies.
“The Borough of Ambridge is grateful for Duquesne Light’s support of this major economic development project in our community. With their support, the final outcome of the streetscape improvements will be a more attractive downtown and image of Ambridge,” stated Council President Michael A. Mikulich.
Ambridge Borough will be completing a streetscape improvement project along Merchant Street between 4th and 8th Streets, starting in the spring of 2018. The Borough has already secured funding for construction and the project is scheduled to be put out for public bid in winter 2017. This project will improve the atmosphere on Merchant Street by completing sidewalk and curb replacements, removal of the current utility poles and existing overhead electrical wiring, new ornamental street lanterns that will have electrical outlets to energize holiday displays and community events, new street trees, tree pits and landscaping, improved ADA sidewalk ramps, new street amenities such as benches, trash cans, bicycle racks, planters, and decorative crosswalks.
