Earlier this year, Kaczmarczyk, who had been working from home and is helping to get the business off the ground, decided the inventory needed a better setting. They drove through town for looking for a place to rent.
Owner Eva Chudicek said they wanted a place with a nice store front and Tom at Tom's Country Store suggested their location. They liked the storefront, which had been empty, and the owner was willing to sell.
"We were going to go with all kinds of different names and I said 'everything is touched by time.' We just said that's it, Touched By Time. It's new and used."
They have accumulated items over the years from yard sales, estate sales, auctions and stores. Chudicek has the eye and they have lucked out in finding nice pieces, like an heirloom edition nativity scene.
Kaczmarczyk did mechanical drafting and design for many years and used to work with his brother in Rochester. Proceeding on faith, he took a different course and was inspired after coming across a yellow flier for a business seminar at Laughlin Memorial Library.
The "If your Business was here" seminar, hosted by Ambridge Connection, featured local business owners, borough and county officials who answered questions about getting started, permits, business loans and more.
"I remember going home telling Eva you did a heck of a job. It was a really nice get-together. It really presented a nice and professional image. It was impressive," he said.
They said Ambridge Connection was a big factor in their deciding to open the new business.
"Everything that you've done, or put out there as far as information on the website, has been probably a key part of why we're actually willing to try to do this," Kaczmarczyk said. "So, you are a big part of it."
Kaczmarczyk said he's sure there are a lot of other people out there with ideas who want to start something.
He and Chudicek have known each other for 25 or more years.
They hope to be a nice little collectable second hand store.
Touched By Time Collectibles is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and is located at 501 Merchant Street.
