Congratulations to the Ambridge Varsity Girls Soccer team with their win over Mars in the WPIAL quarterfinals.
Coach Helsel shared that the girls did a great job tonight. "It was a team effort and they really played for each other."
Helsel added that it was exciting to get the win and move into the semi finals.
Next game is against Moon Area High School who is currently the number one team in the WPIAL.

After a strong end to the season and a first round upset win over Franklin Regional, the Lady Bridgers faced 4th ranked Mars in the second round on Thursday evening.Mars mounted a strong attack but the Ambridge defense met the challenge. With both teams holding strong, shots were limited and the first half ended scoreless. Eight minutes into the second half, Mars almost broke the ice with a glancing blow off the crossbar. The physical nature of the game continued with girls from both sides being knocked to the turf. A Mars foul put the ball just beyond the 30-yard line for a free kick. Haley O’Brien’s kick cleared the keeper and found the back of the net putting the first point on the board. This is all Ambridge would get and all Ambridge would need. The #12 ranked Bridgers play on. Cinderella story…you decide. Come root for the Lady Bridgers on Saturday as they play the #1 ranked Moon Tigers. Time and location TBA.
