Ambridge High School student Stephon McGinnis was named MVP of the Pittsburgh Basketball Club Summer league, averaging 39 points a game. He will receive the 2014 Wovchko Award.
McGinnis is the first Ambridge player in the 21-year history of the award to receive one. McGinnis was instrumental in leading the Ambridge Bridgers to win the 2014 PBC AAA/AAAA championship.
According to PBC Summer league, he also set a PBC Summer League Championship game record with 36 points, helping the team earn their first summer league championship after defeating West Middlesex, 77-65.
This is also the first PBC Championship for Ambridge and boys basketball Coach Mark Jula, who is in the PBC Hall of Fame.
McGinnis will be presented his award during the 2015 Pittsburgh High School Classic on Jan. 25, 2015 as part of the PBC Hall of Fame weekend festivities at the Montour athletic complex.
