Ambridge Council hired a new borough manager Monday night, ending a search that lasted for several months.
Joe Kauer, a resident of Bridgeville, was hired to fill the vacancy. He officially starts on Dec. 1.
Kauer worked for nine years as the manager in Heidelberg Borough, and started out in Carnegie as a bookkeeper and assistant secretary. He holds a bachelor's degree in public service with a concentration in public administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
Michael Foreman, a local government policy specialist with the Department of Community and Economic Development, assisted the borough on the selection process to allow for a neutral, merit-based and impartial hiring.
Council President Michael Mikulich thanked Foreman and several others for their assistance.
Kauer said he was impressed with the community engagement at the meeting.
"This was a wonderful council meeting. It was nice to see citizens' input and the level of interaction. I'm going to enjoy working here."
