The competition starts on March 23, but the two athletes have been training and playing exhibition games called friendly games with local Spanish teams.
“They were excited to play soccer in the streets of Spain yesterday. Some of the locals stopped to watch,” shared Mason’s mother, Lisa Kovach.
Stars United won their first friendly 4-0 in Sitges against CF Blanca Subur 4.
According to the Star United website, their partner, David Oertli of Lazz Sports, coordinated the 10-day trip for the team and parents.
“We are so excited for this once in a lifetime opportunity,” added Kovach.
The Mediterranean International Competition is a six-day event that consists of 596 matches over five competition days on 24 different fields. More than 200 teams from five continents are represented from 36 different nationalities.
