Ambridge police arrested a borough man Sunday after he attempted to steal scrap metal from a local restaurant and bar recently destroyed in a fire.
Police said James McCants, 65, of 118 Maplewood Ave., will be charged with criminal trespass and theft.
Neighbors called police around 6 p.m. to the 300 block of Maplewood Avenue after seeing individuals taking materials from the burned-out Rooks Cantina 505 building and loading items into a vehicle.
When police arrived, officers said they found a large commercial air conditioning unit hanging from the trunk of a 1998 Jaguar and other scrap materials inside the car.
Police said McCants told officers he had permission from the building's demolition company to take the scrap and planned to bring the AC unit to a friend's house.
