On behalf of the borough, Council President Michael Mikulich presented members of the Mikush family with a proclamation declaring Feb. 10, 2015 as Mikush Maytag Appliance Store Day in Ambridge.
Mikulich said the business located at 811 Merchant Street has been a great asset both to the borough and beyond its borders.
“The family-owned operation, the Mikush family, has dedicated much of their time, assets and devotion to flourish the business into a successful appliance store,” Mikulich read from the proclamation.
In 1932, Andrew Mikush opened the original appliance store on Duss Avenue. From 1960 to 2000, his son Andrew Mikush, Jr. continued his father’s legacy of operating and developing the business in a third location on Merchant Street.
The legacy has passed to the fourth generation, with great-grandson Bryan Mikush, who said he is proud to carry on the tradition of his ancestors, providing quality Maytag appliances, parts and repair services.
Bryan Mikush particularly thanked his wife, Cindy, for allowing him to work a multitude of hours to keep the business successful.
Ambridge officials plan to recognize more businesses that have continued operating in the borough through good times and bad. Council hopes to encourage the community to shop and support the many business establishments that call Ambridge home.
“We couldn’t think of a better family to first recognize because this family stuck with Ambridge, they have their business in Ambridge, for over 83 years and counting.”
