Council president Michael Mikulich presented the Syka family with the proclamation on behalf of council and the mayor, calling them a rare asset to the borough.
In 1974, co-founder John J. Syka acquired full ownership of the funeral home, creating the present day Syka Funeral Home.
A third-generation a family-owned operation, John Syka's son and grandson, Jack and David, now carry forward in their father's and grandfathers footsteps, building and enhancing the same legacy and tradition.
Jack and David Syka are active firefighters, dedicating much of their time to supporting the mission of the Ambridge volunteer fire department.
"The John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. has been a stellar example of a corporate-citizen within Ambridge," the proclamation reads.
In honor of the family and the funeral home's long-standing success and support to the community, the borough declared June 9, 2015 as John Syka Funeral Home Day in Ambridge
