Ambridge Council recently voted to renew a four-year contract with the borough firefighters union.
The collective bargaining agreement with Ambridge Firefighters Local I.A.F.F. #1863 was renewed through 2019.
Under the agreement, employees will receive an average pay increase of 3.5 percent each year. All future hires will be eligible for a borough sponsored individual retirement account with a borough contribution of $2,000 per year; the same plan as the borough's administrative personnel.
Borough Manager Joe Kauer said the change will save the town on future pension obligations.
