Two Ambridge Rotary members recently helped raise nearly $3,000 for the the End Polio Now campaign.
Barbara and Michael Knecht participated Nov. 9 in the third annual Indiana First Bank Veteran's Marathon in Black Lick, Pa.
The couple's run helped Ambridge Rotary promote awareness and raised $914.40 locally for the End Polio Now Campaign, a world-wide campaign mounted by Rotary International to eradicate the polio disease. When the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation match is applied, the total raised will be $2,743.20.
Barbara Knecht finished the half marathon at 3:07:09 and Michael Knecht finished the full marathon at 4:46.32.
Michael Knecht also spoke about his marathon experience and the goals he set for himself.
Fritz Retsch came closest to guessing Michael’s time and Michael donated a matching check in Fritz’s name. A total of $914 was donated and with a Bill and Melinda Gates match of $2 for every $1, a total of $2,743 was raised.
