On Wednesday, March 14, students nationwide have expressed their intent to participate in a school walkout as an expression of support and solidarity with their peers in Parkland, Fla.
The Ambridge Area School District has not been informed in advance whether our students intend to participate in this nationwide walkout. However, students who opt to participate in the walkout will not be disciplined by Administration provided they remain on campus grounds during the walkout. Should students exit our buildings to participate in the walkout, they will be closely monitored by Administrators and members of the local police, as needed, to ensure their safety.
“We see this as an opportunity for our students to engage in civic activism and to exercise their First Amendment rights, and we support them in this endeavor,” said Ms. Janice Zupsic, High School Principal. “Safety for our students is my main concern. If they remain on school property and gather peacefully, no disciplinary action will be taken.”
