In addition to the truck, the band is seeking funds to help maintain the equipment they already have, and add to their arsenal of instruments. The band often needs to purchase items like mallets and new drums, and the drums have to be tuned periodically. Tuning the drums is an expensive task since a specialist has to be transported to the area, usually for multiple days.
There are about thirty 11th and 12th graders who make up the steel band’s traveling performance group. They typically play around 40 engagements per year, ranging from elementary school outreach programs throughout the Pittsburgh area, to corporate events and weddings. The band was honored again in December to lead Pittsburgh’s First Night Parade to welcome the New Year.
Businesses who donate $500 will have their logo included on a banner at all of the group’s performances, and those able to donate $1,000 will also have their business logo included in the graphics for a new truck.
