Five Ambridge Area Junior High School students were honored for their participation in an anti-drug poster design and essay competition this morning at the Chadwick in Wexford.

The Alliance for Safe and Drug Free Children sponsors the annual contest for seventh grade students, and attracts entries from a dozen school districts in the area. The group, established in 2002, helps schools and other community groups to promote drug-free lifestyles, and has recently added anti-bullying programs to its mission.
Representing Ambridge this year are Marissa Hooks, Caitlin Kiliany, Brooke Mauldin, Amanda Mikush, and Madison Perry. Mauldin's poster earned an honorable mention, and will be featured in The Alliance's annual calendar, which is distributed throughout area schools. James Litzinger, a junior high school health and physical education instructor, acts as a faculty sponsor for the school.
As part of their recognition, the students were photographed with Steelers quarterback and honorary event chairperson Ben Roethlisberger.
