The Beaver County Recreation and Tourism Department, which hosts the contest, posted the announcement on their Facebook page Saturday morning.

Despite the cancellation, several riders showed up with their shovels.
"There were probably a good 20 people who were there, " said Alan Freed, whose daughter plans to participate. "Many of them knew it had been canceled and just decided to practice for it."
The free event on Saturday, Feb. 1 is open to all ages, though anyone under 13 is required to have parental consent. Practice runs are from 9 to 11 a.m. and registration is from 11 a.m. to noon.
Racing begins at 12:30 p.m. According to the recreation and tourism department, bagels, hot dogs, cookies, hot chocolate and coffee will be provided.
