We survived another rough day here in "Metropolis." They say tragedy brings people together. I witnessed this yesterday first hand.
During my brief visit to the scene of yesterday's fire, I saw firefighters risking their lives to battle the raging flames. As I stood on the corner of 6th and Merchant, gasping for air, I watched two firefighters holding a weeping woman in their arms. Two big, burly guys comforting a woman who feared for a neighbor who was unaccounted for. I saw two people pushing shopping carts full of ice and water towards the "senior rest stop" located directly across the street from the fire. I found out today that Vocelli's Pizza sent free pizzas to help feed the first responders. The Baden McDonald's, Shop n' Save, the Ambridge Theater and individuals contributed to feeding and helping the firefighters get through the day. Volunteers were everywhere, doing what they could to help.
Lastly, the Ambridge Connection, Rich McFarland and several others did everything they could to keep the community informed as to what was happening at the scene. When push comes to shove, the people of Ambridge stood together, as one community.
