According to authorities, Hamilton used two fake aliases -- Art Follage and Michael Lewis -- when he defrauded the CNX Gas Co. of $440,216.35 by filing lease agreements with forgeries and imaginary people.
The lease interests were located in Christian County, Illinois, and in Fayette County, WV, and entitled the owner to royalty payments for oil and gas extracted from the land.
Hamilton also used a fake company and a post office box to pull off the scheme, the U.S. attorney's office said.
U.S. District Judge David S. Cercone scheduled sentencing for March 25. Hamilton faces up to 40 years in prison and a fine of $500,000.
Hamilton has been reported to be a resident of Baden because of his mailing address, but he actually lives in Allegheny County in a township that borders Economy.
WTAE reports that he was Consol's land records general manager when he forged the deed transfers.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
