In the inaugural year for the awards, Alexxis Langton and Lorraine Yanjtovich were each awarded a $1000 scholarship. On hand to present the scholarship checks was Carla Flati, the daughter of Carl Ross.
Yanjtovich, a Midland resident, is currently a sophomore at Chatham University in Pittsburgh. Langton, a Hopewell resident, is a senior at Hopewell Area High School. She plans to attend Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
The two were selected as the recipients of the Anthony S. Pane and Carl D. Ross Memorial Scholarships from among many deserving Beaver County area applicants. In addition to providing information, all applicants had to submit a 500 word essay about how they find credit unions valuable.
The women were presented with their scholarship checks and honored at Friendly Federal Credit Union in Aliquippa on Saturday, Nov. 29.
The two scholarships were created this past year to honor the legacies of late Friendly Federal Credit Union board members, Anthony S. Pane and Carl D. Ross. The two men helped cast a vision and create a viable financial institution and a valuable asset to the community through decades of service.
From now on, two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded annually to deserving students. Interested applicants for next year's scholarship presentations can visit Friendly Federal Credit Union in Baden or Aliquippa, or visit www.friendlyfcu.org to learn more.
