Higgins submitted a letter of resignation, but did not state a reason for resigning, Solicitor Hobart Webster said.
Her resignation was presented after it came to light that she had inappropriate contact with a male student as a former Woodland Hills High School Spanish teacher.
According to reports, Higgins resigned Feb. 24 from Woodland Hills, a month after police found her in a parked car at night with a student.
Webster said Higgins rescinded her position in Ambridge before the school board had a chance to react.
He said the district hires employees on the condition that they can pass a background check, provide clearances and other requirements.
The board also approved the following resignations:
- Adam Benson, tech education, at the Ambridge Area Junior High, effective October 30, 2015
- Stephanie Drewnowski, superintendent’s secretary/board secretary, effective October 30, 2015.
- Kathleen DeBlassio, accounts payable clerk, effective October 23, 2015.
