Aliquippa School District will receive $24,961 for metal scanners, security wands and electronic door locks. Hopewell Area School District will receive $25,000 for a cellular repeater system and electronic lock sets. Ambridge School Area District will receive $15,950 for a visitor identification system and Quaker Valley School District will receive $24,992 for active shooter and aggressive intruder training.
Matzie said the grants will be formally announced Friday by state Secretary of Education Pedro A. Rivera.
"Students and teachers should feel safe in their schools so they can focus on education, and these funds will help ensure our school districts are safe learning environments," Matzie said.
Safe School Initiative grants are competitive grants awarded by the state Education Department to help school districts prevent and reduce school violence through school resource and police officers, prevention programs and security-related technology.
