Economy and Ambridge are among the four municipalities that will receive grants totaling $7,937 as part of the state’s Recycling Performance Grant Program.
The amount of each grant is based on the municipalities’ population and the amount they recycled in calendar year 2012.
The following municipalities were awarded grants:
- Economy will receive $4,836 based on 612.9 tons of recycled material.
- Ambridge will receive $1,421 based on 261.9 tons of recycled material.
- Aliquippa will receive $1,349 based on 264.5 tons of recycled material.
- Leet Township will receive $331 based on 58.3 tons of recycled material.
“These investments are good for our environment and for our economy,” Matzie, D-Ambridge said in a news release. “Recycling plays a key part in keeping our environment healthy by reducing waste in our landfills. In addition, recycling programs and industries are a significant part of Pennsylvania's economy. So I would like to applaud our community for their support of these initiatives.”
