Ohio Valley Lumber Co. closed its doors last week after more than a century of operations in Ambridge.
According to the company's website, Ohio Valley Lumber was founded in 1911 on Fourteenth Street, along the Beltline Railroad in Ambridge.

Albert Schell along with his two sons purchased the business shortly after World War II, and Albert Schell managed Ohio Valley Lumber. He was succeeded by his son and daughter-in-law, James K. and Phyllis Schell. James K. Schell passed away in 1981, leaving his wife Phyllis and their two sons Bill and Jim to manage the business.
The building material supplier maintained its corporate offices as well as the distribution yard and a retail store in Ambridge.
A family member confirmed that the Ambridge location closed on Friday.
