A free Garden Mart will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 17 in the blooming garden. The annual event will be held in the historic 19th century formal gardens at Old Economy Village.
Heirloom vegetables and other plants from the historic site’s greenhouse will be available for purchase. Nine additional vendors are participating in the Garden Mart and will be selling garden related items as well. Admission into the Garden Mart and the Old Economy Village gardens is free.
Presentations include:
- How to Create a Black and Gold Garden with Doug Oster, co-host/producer of The Organic Gardeners Radio show and the Post-Gazette's Backyard Gardener
- Growing, Harvesting, and Preserving Garlic with Enon Valley Garlic owner, Ron Stidman, who has been growing garlic since 2003
- Herb of the Year: Artemisia with Penn State Master Gardener, Pat Leiphart
Participants can choose to attend individual sessions at $12 for members and $15 for non-members, or attend the full event, which includes all three speakers, a tour of the garden, and lunch at a cost of $44 for members and $55 for non-members. Registration is due by today, May 12 for lunch.
