The lecture on the "Religious Beliefs and Practices of George Rapp’s Harmony Society" begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, in the visitor center, 270 16th St., Ambridge.
Ott researched the religious beliefs of George Rapp and the Harmony Society during her tenure as a Scholar in Residence at Old Economy Village in 2006. Ott is an affiliate professor of the history of Global Christianity at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois.
In 1791, a dozen years before founding the Harmony Society in Pennsylvania, Johann Georg Rapp declared boldly to church leaders in Iptingen, Germany that he was "a prophet and called to be one."
This statement of Rapp's has frequently been claimed by scholars to be a key to understanding Rapp's view of himself.

After the lecture she will sign copies of her book, "The Sunwoman in the Wilderness: The Religious Beliefs and Practices of George Rapp’s Harmony Society." The book is available for purchase in The Harmonist Rose Museum Store at Old Economy. The lecture is open to the general public.
