Steve Roberts fell in love with Old Economy Village and Ambridge when he first visited the historic site in 2012. As with many volunteers, Steve’s involvement started slowly – first becoming a member of the Friends of Old Economy Village, then attending more programs and events, and eventually being elected to the Board of Directors at the May 2014 Annual Meeting.
Once on the Board, Steve became an active member of the Events and Nominating Committees. After his first year, he became the Chairman of the Events Committee and worked with the committee to improve event planning, promotion, and execution. Steve also became the Secretary of the FOEV Board. He also served on Old Economy’s Strategic Planning Committee and the Bureau of Historic Sites & Museums’ Umbrella Agreement Committee.
Steve has been a passionate advocate for Old Economy Village – its programs, staff, and volunteers. In 2017, he proposed that the Board of Directors raise funds to enhance programming, improve marketing, and increase FOEV staffing as part of a Bringing History Alive at Old Economy Village initiative. Through his efforts, FOEV has received a $50,000 challenge grant from the Jack Buncher Foundation and raised an additional $33,000 in matching support in the first six months of the fundraising campaign.
In addition to his involvement at Old Economy, Steve is very active in Ambridge. He is the Chair of the Historic Architecture Review Board, serves on the Downtown Development Committee, the Ambridge Historic District Economic Development Corporation, and is the incoming President of the Rotary Club of Ambridge.
