In what is being called one of the department's largest money seizures, Ambridge police uncovered $117,575 in cash, a stolen gun and drug paraphernalia believed to be connected to drug trafficking after responding to a domestic dispute at a borough apartment.

Police have charged Durrell Fortson, 36, of 300 Fourth St., Apt. 402, with possession of a firearm prohibited, carrying firearms without a license, receiving stolen property, and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia.
advertisement According to police, officers arrived at the third floor apartment shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4 for a report of a domestic in progress.
Tenants directed police out the front door to Duss Avenue, where police said Forston had run carrying a green gym bag. Police found him on Duss, ordered him to stop and come back.
Forston walked back and explained to police that he and his girlfriend were only arguing. Police patted Forston down and found nothing. The officer picked up the bag and could feel "large rectangular objects" inside. Police asked what was inside the bag and Forston said "a little bit of money."

The officer asked how much was a little bit, and Forston said $70,000. Police unzipped the bag and found numerous large stacks of cash in rubber bands, totaling $117,545. Police also found a black Glock 9mm with a long, 30-round magazine in it and a laptop computer.
Police and agents from the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office searched the residence and found a money counter, vacuum sealer packages, vacuum sealer, fabric softeners, Creatine powder and a digital scale with white powder on it. The handgun came back as stolen out of Greene County, Pa., police said.
Police said Fortson, who has an ankle bracelet, is on federal probation and house arrest after being convicted in March 2003 for distribution and delivery of narcotics. He remains in Beaver County Jail on $100,000 bond and is being held on a felony detainer.
