An Ambridge resident launched an online campaign to encourage Trader Joe’s to bring a grocery store to the borough and has already attracted more than 250 signatures.
advertisement At the urging of other residents, Therese Boyd launched the petition Monday, Nov. 24 on the MoveOn.org website. The petition is inspired by the recent announcement to close all Bottom Dollar discount grocery stores in the United States, including the Ambridge location.
In her online petition addressed to Trader Joe’s, Boyd wrote "Our small Bottom Dollar store was recently bought out by Aldi's and we would LOVE to have Trader Joe's step in and be a part of this wonderful growing community!"
The petition calls on Trader Joes to consider Ambridge, "an old steel mill community on the verge of a wonderful resurgence of business and small town living."
"We are centrally located to many of Trader Joe's target markets," Boyd writes.
Some of the signatures have come from supporters outside of the Ambridge area, from Hookstown, Cranberry Township and Beaver to out-of-state Maryland and Colorado.
Boyd hopes to garner at least 300 signatures before presenting the petition to Daniel Bane, CEO of the company.
