The decision by District Court Judge John Jones essentially opens the door for same-sex couples to legally wed in the commonwealth.
"Given the high legal threshold set forth by Judge Jones in this case, the case is extremely unlikely to succeed on appeal," Corbett said.
Jones declared the ban unconstitutional on Tuesday, saying that such laws should be tossed "into the ash heap of history."
While the Beaver County Register of Wills received five same-sex marriage applications on Wednesday, no ceremonies were scheduled at the Ambridge magistrate's office as of Wednesday.
