The vacancy was created when Board member James Wear resigned. Wear, who was not present at the December 11 meeting, provided a resignation letter to Cathy Fischer, Board President.
Ambridge Connection reached out to Jim Wear and Cathy Fischer but was unable to reach either of them for comment by phone.
"He served the board well and was very supportive of the school district. We will miss him" shared, Ambridge superintendent, Dr. L Joan Welter.
Wear, of Economy, was elected in November 2017.
School Board members have 30 days to fill the vacancy per Department of Education regulations
District residents wishing to fill the seat are encouraged to submit a letter of interest and a resume for review to fill a vacancy on the Board for a term through November 2021

The Pennsylvania School Code outlines the following requirements for candidates wishing to fill school board vacancies:
• Must be a citizen;
• Must be at least 18 years old;
• Must be of good moral character; and
• Must be a resident of school district for at least one year prior to the date of election or appointment.
The School Board will review all applications for the position at the January 8, 2020 meeting, with interviews conducted between January 8th – 15th. A final candidate will be selected at the January 15, 2020 meeting.The new Board member will serve the remainder of Mr. Wear's term, which expires in November 2021
