Officers of the former Sokol Club in Ambridge delivered a check over the weekend to support Ambridge's K-9 officer, Hector.
"Myself, the police chief and the mayor want to thank the Sokol Club," Chickos said.
Hector has been working in the borough since March 2011 and turns 6 in July.
The Sokol Club was the first to donate to the K-9 and had pledged to give money every year to help with expenses. Unfortunately, funds that were collected got held up for several years due to a lawsuit involving the club, which has since dissolved.
After a recent settlement, club members were finally given the OK to donate the funds they raised.
The borough covers insurance of about $2,000 per year for the K-9, but Chickos said day-to-day expenses are paid out of pocket or from donations.
Support for the K-9 team is always welcome. Checks can be made out to the "Ambridge Borough Police Dog Fund."
