When is the bleeding going to stop on school taxes we can't afford them now
The Tribune-Review did a sampling of 58 school districts in Western PA for the school year of 2015-2016. The lowest mills was Pittsburgh schools at 9.84, the highest was Seneca Valley with 119.90 mills. Do you know what Ambridge was?? We are at 75.86 mills. There are only 10 districts listed higher than we are. The median home value was listed at $23,100 for Ambridge. Avonworth with a median of $186,000 pays only 18.67 mills. A 3.4 mill increase is significant. The tax will be 79.16 mills this coming year. You wonder why people are moving away? People cannot afford the school tax. I would prefer to pay my taxes all at once, but we can't afford to as we are retired on limited income, so we have to do it in payments, which means no discount. Our Social Security didn't go up 3.4 mills, his pension didn't increase by 3.4 mills. So where will the money come from?
I understand we have more people retiring, we still have a high school to pay for. But please people, this is too much.
My sister just bought a home after looking around the greater Pittsburgh area. She asked me, "Why is it that the districts with the worst schools have the highest school tax?" Why is it indeed?
Sorry, it kept telling me there was an error and to submit it again. I did not mean to post it three times.
