We were dispatched today to a recovery call at the intersection of Hemmerle Road & Hillsdale Road in Economy.

This 2015 Ford Escape left the roadway and struck the guard rail, ripping out three sections. The vehicle then struck a pole, which launched her airborne and caused her to begin barrel rolling.

She traveled across the driveway, through thicket, and down another grade. She landed approximately 200ft from the roadway. Upon landing, the engine from her vehicle was ripped clean out and came to rest on the ground next to her vehicle. The driver front wheel, tire, & suspension was sheared off and came to rest inside the engine compartment. There was debris from the point of impact up until the resting point and further. Several large parts were stuck in the thicket bushes and trees.
Debris was in a large radius around the vehicle. The vehicle lost multiple fluids as it traveled down the second grade, and also where the engine itself came to rest. We dispatched Moore's with their rotator in order to lift the vehicle from the hill and place it onto our flatbed. The engine was also hoisted up with the rotator and placed onto our trailer. The suspension and wheel assembly was lifted up and placed onto our flatbed with the vehicle. All debris was removed from the area and contained in drums. All contaminated dirt, leaves, etc were gathered and shoveled into DOT approved drums to be disposed of properly. The damaged bushes were removed from the scene.

The entire accident scene on the homeowners' driveway and property was restored and neutralized so they may safely travel around their homes.

The best part of this recovery was the female driver got out of this vehicle on her own and walked away unharmed. She had her seatbelt on the entire duration, never allowing her to be thrown around or ejected. Every airbag deployed, acting as a cushion for her as the vehicle rolled and bounced.

The front end took the entire initial impact, keeping the passenger compartment safe. Every door still opens on its own. The roof never gave way, as well as the entire sunroof. It is clear the vehicle sustained heavy damage and is a total loss, but this vehicle deserves credit for saving this woman's life.

This vehicle did its job 100%. It held strong where it needed to and gave way where it needed to. This is one of the few accidents we have seen this extensive with NO injury whatsoever. This vehicle impressed us highly, and we're sure the driver feels the same way.

This vehicle kept her alive.

Her seatbelt kept her alive. Any vehicle can be replaced, but your life cannot. Don't let yourself be a victim. New vehicles are designed with reinforced structures, high strength metals, airbags, seatbelts, safer glass, etc for safety. Don't let your failed use of a seatbelt cancel out the other safety.

Prayers to this woman and her chance at life another day, although clearly she had a guardian angel watching her already. Feel free to share this post and let others see how such small measures can make a big difference. Huge thank you to Economy FD and Economy PD for assisting us initially on scene for traffic control. Also huge thank you to Moore's Auto Wrecking for their professional job done and assistance with this recovery.

We worked as a great team today.
