On Saturday a group of teachers and teaching assistants from Highland and Economy took the plunge into the frigid Beaver River in the 2020 Beaver County Polar Plunge. This year's plunge raised over $115,000 for Beaver County Special Olympics!
Economy Volunteer Fire Department release a statement this morning that the board made the decision to move forward with continuing the annual fish fry.

Additional School Board Vacancy Notice The Ambridge Area Board of School Directors is accepting letters of interest to fill a vacancy on the Board. The vacancy was created when Board member Roger Kowal resigned as of January 5, 2020. Kowal, provided a resignation letter to Board President Cathy Fischer. School Board members have 30 days to fill the vacancy per Department of Education regulations. District residents wishing to fill the seat are encouraged to submit a letter of interest and a resume for review by January 14, 2020 to: Mrs. June Mueller, School Board Secretary, 901 Duss Ave., Ambridge, PA 15003, or via email at jmueller@ambridge.k12.pa.us. The Pennsylvania School Code outlines the following requirements for candidates wishing to fill school board vacancies: Must be a citizen; Must be at least 18 years old; Must be of good moral character; and Must be a resident of school district for at least one year prior to the date of election or appointment. Mrs. Fischer said the School Board will review all and conduct interviews at the January 15, 2020 meeting. A final candidate will be selected at the January 15, 2020 meeting. The new Board member will serve the remainder of Mr. Kowal’s term, which expires in November 2021. At the Jan. 6 Harmony Township Board of Commissioners reorganization meeting, Magistrate Alex Korol swore in new board members Grace Ombres DeBona and Paul D. Kokoski.
Newly elected Commissioner Debona won both the two and four-year term in the November 2019 election. Bob Villella, Township Manager, shared that it is unusual that a community has a person win both seats. DeBona accepted the four-year term, and the board declared the two-year term vacant. More changes coming for another local time capsule? The old Anderson's Candy building on Merchant Street no longer belongs to the Andersons. It sold back in October for $25k according to public record.

Photos by Ryan Donnelly / Ambridge Connection Four days ago, a very unfortunate and unexpected event took place at the Scott family residence on Celestial Drive in Economy Borough. Fortunately, the home was vacant and the family of four is safe and unharmed, but it’s hard to imagine all that was lost during this devastating event.
It is with a heavy heart throughout the department as we have lost one of our own. Our brother Mark Stewart is no longer in pain or struggling with his health. Mark fought a long hard battle and is at peace now.
