The lunch program begins Monday, June 9 at Ambridge Area High School, 909 Duss Ave. By Larissa Dudkiewicz Ambridge Area has added more than 30 new course offerings to the high school curriculum, giving students an opportunity to graduate with college credits and a diploma in hand. Superintendent Cynthia Zurchin said administrators and teachers are working to reduce the number of study halls next school year and increase the number of electives. The board also approved retirements, reappointments and a resignation. Ambridge Area School Board approved a contract with a North Hills-based company to complete a district-wide facilities study. Architectural Renovations of Ross Township was approved Wednesday to do the assessment at a cost not to exceed $15,000. Police said a teen was found with a knife after several police departments and K-9 units did a sweep through the school. A lock down at Ambridge Area High School was lifted after authorities spent Wednesday morning and early afternoon investigating a threat scrawled on a bathroom wall. A staff member discovered the message "I have a gun" handwritten lightly in pencil on a ceramic wall in the boys bathroom. Police and the school resource officer were immediately notified at 10:45 a.m. The Imagination Celebration included a movie premiere, a website launch and three original books by third- and fourth-graders. The Imagination Celebration at Baden Academy celebrated the hard work of 12 research fellow projects Friday at the charter school as well as the science fair participants.

The Ambridge Area High School Drama Club provided comical entertainment and flavorful meals to a packed house this past Friday and Saturday evening at the school. The Ambridge Area High School production of “Peter Pan” earned a total of five nominations and Quigley Catholic High School's "Pippin" earned two nominations in the 20th annual Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards program. The nominations recognize outstanding student achievement in high school musical theatre in Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties. An art mural created from a school-wide effort, was recently unveiled in the entryway of the Ambridge Area Junior High School. Jamie Zbrzezny, art teacher at the junior high, said her art classes worked on the mosaic tile mural in cooperation with the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts artist Laura Jean McLaughlin. |
